14 Months. I feel like his
first year flew by and then these past two months have moved much slower. I’m
not complaining. I always want time to slow down for us.
We still have 8 teeth,
although I have to believe that there are more trying to work their way through
some poor baby gums. Fingers and entire fists are in his mouth CONSTANTLY! Now
if only he’d let me take a look inside. It seems the over the top tantrums have
subsided for now, I honestly can’t remember the last time he threw himself to
the floor. But this kid is now becoming quite possessive, not like I can blame
him. Every time he has something in his hands and anyone (Eric, me or Raegan)
comes near him he sort of hugs it in to his chest and turns away. I do have to
say at this stage half of those times we do take it away from him, but only
because it’ll be something like an open marker or one of Raegan’s Shopkins. But
I have been trying to not be so quick to grab stuff (aside from open markers,
because, well, it’s an open marker!). Clearly we must do it a lot.
He says Hi all the time and
to every passing stranger in the stores or on our walks. He says Keagan and his
version or more. We are working on up, but for the moment he literally just
opens his mouth open to attempt to say the “U” but no noise comes out. So he’s
just standing there, mouth wide open, no sound coming out and holding his arms
straight up. It’s actually pretty funny. He knows the right times to sign More
and Thank You. He learned how to lean in to give a kiss. Every night now after
reading his two favorite books, Doggies and Panda in the Park, he never wants
to snuggle, just hugs his lion, points to his crib, leans in for a good open
mouth kiss and wants to be laid down.
Speaking of books, this
mouth’s favorite activity has been to climb up and down from his glider and
take the books on and off his red side table. He’ll open a page or two and then
put that book down and get another one. This can go on for hours.
Weston still continues to
love music and at the first sounds of it stops everything he is doing so he can
start dancing. He has also become obsessed with brushing his teeth and throws a
tantrum when we have to pull him away from the sick. This is actually fairly
helpful on the big sissy front, since, for the moment, she is all about
brushing her teeth with baby brother. Typically she is the queen of
procrastination when it comes to teeth brushing
Oh and how could I forget one
of the biggest developmental milestones. We have a walker! Just in the past
week he has really started taking more steps on his own, rather than the 2-3 he
was doing before. If you can get him focused on something or excited about something
he’ll actually walk pretty far on his own (15 steps or so). He’s actually not
even all the wobbly when walking, he just has to trust himself more. But I do
think we can officially call it walking.
His sleeping has gotten
pretty consistent. For the most part, mostly because daycare was pushing it in
the new room, he’s down to one nap a day and the amazing part is that now his
nap and Raegan’s nap overlap by a good hour and a half. Hooray for some adult
time on the weekends. We normally put him to bed around 7 and he sleeps to 5:30
or so. Summer has officially kicked off for Eric and I’m hoping since we don’t
have to wake the kids ups so early now that both will start to sleep in a bit
later than 5:30. Here’s to hoping
All in all our little blondie
is still such a light in our lives. We love you boo-boos! Happy 14 months
