So let me first say that while I did have a really good weekend flying solo, it was hard. Seriously have a new level of respect to any single parent out there or to a parent where their partner travels a lot for work, or who's partner works long hours.
Besides, this house is way more fun when daddy is home.
So Jenny and I have been stalking reading the Young House Love blog for probably over three years now. She is one of my only girl friends who really loves the blogging world as much as I do. The funny thing about blogs are that complete strangers can find you and keep up with your life and feel like you are their best friend. The funny thing is Jenny and I will throw out, "Oh did you see what Sherry did..." or "Isn't Clara just the cutest" (John = husband/dad, Sherry = wife/mom and Clara = adorable daughter; the people behind Young House Love). You know because we are clearly on a first name basis with them :)
So John and Sherry wrote a book, it was just released the other week. I had pre-ordered it for Jen for her birthday back in July. They write a blog about do-it-yourself fixes you can do around your house, house decor and of course sneak peeks into their personal life. So when Jen and I heard they were coming to Chicago for their book tour, I think it took us both 2.5 seconds to email each other and set a girl's date.
I decided to chance it and take Raegan along, and she rocked it! Can I also say that I love how much this girl hams up the camera, it's like she already knows how to do the self-portrait photo with the girlfriends. Also, please ignore how blah I look in every photo. I am going to chalk it up to being a single parent all weekend with little sleep and little time to get ready. That's my excuse and I'm keeping with it.
So the signing started at 1, we got there at 10:30. Call us crazy but we got a spot in line inside (key since it started down pouring) and it gave Raegan a place to get down on the floor and play. There were people there who drove from St. Louis the night before and I think waited outside all night long. Now I will say that was over the top. I thought we were bad.
Raegan hammed it up in line with everyone who passed by. It makes me laugh to think we once thought she was shy. The workers at West Elm even snapped a few photos of her at the event.
It was great to spend time away from the house with one of my greatest girlfriends. Jen and I don't get that often these days. And it was nice to be out and about with another mom who knew how to put a kid in a car seat and could do stuff like that without me even asking. Thanks Jen! While it wasn't a true just Jenny and I day since Raegan crashed it, I had a blast and I hope/think Jenny did too.
I was 100% awkward when we met them, but then again, I am pretty much 80% awkward on any given day of my life! :)

I had a ton of fun. I see a girls day out tradition forming!
P.S. I talked with Santa and he agrees that Raegan deserves some more presents for doing so well.
